Our first destination for the Gwoździec trip was Warsaw, Poland.
Right off the plane, we unpacked the camera and went over to the amazing Royal Palace to film the opening of a show of painted panels from the 2011 workshops. Although they had just begun a new program in Szczebrzeszyn, the whole Handshouse crew had driven up to attend.
Rick and Laura presented a painted lion panel to Maria Piechotka, the author, with her husband, Kazimierz, of “Heaven’s Gate”, in gratitude for all of their early research.
We also met up with our first fixer, Ivo Krankowski, a young filmmaker who splits his time between the US, Poland, and Florence, Italy.
The next morning we headed to southeastern Poland to meet up with everyone in Zamość.
